Billed as “the king” of Colorado tabletop gaming conventions, GenghisCon 41 was held Feb. 15-18, 2018, at the Hyatt Regency in Aurora, Colo.
This annual event featured a plethora of organized RPG events, including Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Savage Worlds, along with a variety of independent role-playing games. Attendees also had access to a dizzying selection of board games, as well as movies, panels and old-school arcade games.
Since our personal interests lean more toward tabletop miniatures games, we spent most of our two days at GenghisCon in the designated miniatures rooms and in the vendor area.
GenghisCon 41 hosted organized tournaments for several popular miniatures wargames, including Flames of War, Malifaux, Warhammer 40,000, Bolt Action, and Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire. There were also hosted games based on the Song of Blades and Heroes ruleset, and live demonstrations of games such as the samurai-themed Test of Honour and the WWII air combat game Blood Red Skies.
In the exhibit hall, we probably dropped a bit more change than we originally intended with vendors like Chessex Dice, Kirin Games, Gamescience, Figurephenatix, and Warlord Games. (We’ll show you our haul of cool wargaming loot in a future video.)
Since we weren’t there for the entire event, we ultimately covered just a slice of the games and special events available at GenghisCon 41. For example, the convention had several dedicated rooms that were literally packed with enthusiastic RPG players, most of which don’t appear in our video coverage. We also didn’t stay up gaming until security turned the lights off, like some players did!
